Anuya came to Gisborne in 2006 to work as a locum at Kaiti Medical Centre. She was initially lured here by Dr Brian Gibson’s tales of long sandy beaches; great food, wine and sunshine.

After her initial stay of six months she returned to the UK for a year then was lured back to Gisborne by Dr Brian Gibson’s son Marty. She founded Skin Deep Aesthetics, and married Marty in 2009 and they had a daughter, Safia, in 2011.

She also completed a three year postgraduate training course in 2011 and is now an established Fellow with the NZ College of Appearance Medicine.

In 2013 she attained Fellowship with the Royal NZ College of GPs and is currently doing further training with the Australian College of Phlebology to become a specialist in the treatment of varicose veins.

She had a vision for Skin Deep to be a medical clinic where leading specialists could provide services needed in Gisborne, which were previously only available three to six hours’ drive out of town.

A year after opening Skin Deep in an apartment with one clinical treatment room in Coronation Buildings on Gladstone Road, she moved the business to a big old Stout Street villa, just five minutes’ walk from Gisborne’s town centre.

This space has been developed into a discreet relaxing clinic with four treatment rooms, with Anuya and three part-time nurses offering appearance medicine four days a weeks as well as monthly or fortnightly clinics by four visiting specialists who offer varicose vein treatments, liposuction, skin cancer screening and allergy testing and treatments.

She enjoys the wide range of people who come through the clinic and says her biggest reward is helping her patients get results they are pleased with. “Looking good or fixing something that has been a problem makes people feel great and if that means erasing a few lines on the face or getting rid of a rash or reducing painful varicose veins then that’s what we do.
